"After a Day's Work" written by Bonnie Blomber-Root, daughter of Les Blomberg
These horses represent the social camaraderie enjoyed at the end of a hard day’s work. Their goal is simply trailing to the pasture for grazing on the lush grass.
During the 1970’s Lester Blomberg, along with Wade Blomberg (son), Koreen Blomberg (daughter), Rickie Root (son-in-law), Bonnie Root (daughter), Mona Root (granddaughter), and Toby Root (grandson) would begin the work day early in the morning saddling their favorite horse. Spring and summer kept everyone busy from checking on the birth of new calves and lambs to “riding the fence line” for maintenance. After a long day spent in the saddle, everyone would converge at the main house to enjoy a fabulous meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade bread, and pigweed (lambs quarters) which is a wild plant similar to spinach. The last of this meal would be completed with a homemade lemon meringue pie. All of this mouth watering food was prepared by Alyce Blomberg (wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother). Some of our fondest memories of the Blomberg Ranch are sitting around the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee and eating homemade chocolate chip cookies.
